New York Actors Descend on West Chester!

The Resident Theatre Company Announces Cast and Crew of ‘Next to Normal,’ the Groundbreaking Broadway Musical

(West Chester, Pa)—The Resident Theatre Company is thrilled to announce the cast and crew for its upcoming production of Next to Normal, the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical that garnered 11 Tony nominations and ran on Broadway for 733 performances. This musical family drama will be making its West Chester debut on September 29th as the first show in RTC’s first full season at the Uptown! Knauer Performing Arts Center.

"Next to Normal" will be directed by award-winning Broadway veteran and Resident Theatre Company Founding Artistic Director Kristin McLaughlin Mitchell. Her work has been called “enchanting” by The New York Times, and “genius” by Entertainment Weekly.  RTC’s inaugural production of Monty Python’s Spamalot, which she directed last spring, was hailed as “better than NY” and “like being beamed up to Broadway.” That production earned RTC its first four Barrymore Award nominations.

“Next to Normal is a groundbreaking musical that completely changed the sound of Broadway when it came out in 2009. There would be no Dear Evan Hansen without Next to Normal. It was the beginning of a new, compelling style of theatre," says McLaughlin Mitchell.

RTC is bringing in six New York actors for this Next to Normal cast, and Corey Everly (former accompanist for the GRAMMY-nominated Westminster Williamson Voices) will be Music Directing.

Nikki Van Cassele who has appeared on stage in Cabaret (Broadway National Tour), Legacy Falls (New York Musical Festival), and Godspell (Walnut Street Theatre) will star as Diana, a loving, quick humored mother of this “typical” American family.

Galen Murphy-Hoffman will play Dan, a reliable father who tries to right his family toward normalcy, if he can only figure out what that is. Mr. Murphy-Hoffman’s many New York stage appearances include The Dishonorable Discharge of Private Pitts (IATI Theatre), Film Noix (New York Fringe Festival), and Cookin' With Oil (Gotham Comedy Club).

John Wilkening, an award-winning actor, will play as Dr. Fine and Dr. Madden. His professional credits include Memphis (Weathervane Theatre), Jesus Christ Superstar (Winnipesaukee Playhouse), and Urinetown (Black Hills Playhouse).

The cast also features New York actors Chelsea Jo Rostaino as Natalie, Alex Kunz as Gabe, and Christopher Sheehan as Henry.

The Resident Theatre Company’s production of Next to Normal will also be bringing in accomplished designers including set designer Brian Dudkiewicz; costume designer Kayla Speedy; lighting designer Lily Fossner; and sound designer Toby Pettit.

Tickets for Next to Normal are on sale now at www.rtcwc.org.
